Guest Artist: Victoria Wallace mezzo soprano SUNDAY MARCH 9, 2.30pm Victoria Wallace is currently studying in the Diploma of Opera at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, studying with Maree Ryan. Prior to this, she studied classical singing for two years whilst completing a Diploma of Creative Arts at The Wesley Institute, studying with Ronald Stevens. Victoria received the Wesley Institute Vocal scholarship for the duration of her course. For the following three years, she pursued other interests, but rediscovered her passion for singing during her experiences on the ABC TV series, Operatunity Oz, in which she successfully reached the final twenty out of two thousand hopefuls. This series gave Victoria the opportunity to work with such distinguished artist as Yvonne Kenny, Richard Gill, Antoinette Halloran, Elke Neidhardt and Anna Connolly. Victoria performed the role of Lady Sangazure in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Sorcerer for Rockdale Opera in 2003. She was the Contralto soloist in Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, with baroque ensemble Ensemble Des Emi in 2006. In May, 2007, Victoria played the role of Announcer in Gallantry; a Soap Opera for the Sydney Conservatorium of Music's Opera Studio. Victoria also had her first professional engagement with the Opera Australia chorus for Mozart's The Abduction of Seraglio. In November Victoria was one of only five national Finalists in the Australian Singing Competition, Mathy Awards, and was the recipiant of the Kiri Arias-Adams Award for the semi finals. She performed a selection of arias with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra under the baton of international Maestro, Richard Bonynge. Victoria was also a finalist for the Opera & Arts support group Scholarship and a semi-finalist for the Mac Donalds Operatic Aria challenge. 2007 engagements included Saint-Saens Christmas Oratorio and Handel's Messiah for the University of Sydney Graduate Choir and Messiah at the Sydney Town Hall with the SBS Youth Orchestra. In 2007, Victoria was the recipient of the Reuben F. Scarf Memorial Scholarship, Nerissa Niblo Memorial Scholarship, Chapple Bremner Award, and the Helpman Family Schollarship. Also in 2007, Victoria was the first recipient of the Joan Carden Award.
